How to submit a paper to Science Ascend?

Science Ascend is a biannual, free-to-read and free-to-submit scientific journal on astrophysics research, tools, and people. This can only be realized with a steady inflow of articles from the relevant people in the field. For them to submit an appropriate article, below are the related guidelines.

Scope of Articles (Will my paper be a good fit/Is this journal a good venue?

Science Ascend's (hereinafter the Journal) covers astrophysics studies, which includes planetary, solar, stellar, galactic astrophysics, cosmology, missions/instrumentation, and both observational and theoretical studies.

The things excluded from the Journal's scope are: Earth-focusing studies and remote sensing earth observation, codes/software announcement/specifications, republication of conference proceedings/abstracts, and reviews other than the ones focusing on the last 6 months before the specific issue's publication (which means, for an issue to be published in July 2026, a review covering studies within January-June 2026 period is the only good fit).

Types of Articles

The Journal currently published in the following article types:

• Focused recent literature review: A short literature review of the last 6 months in an astrophysics field,
• Lecture note: A lecture note on an astrophysics-relevant topic,
• Opinion article: A piece commenting/criticizing a peer-reviewed or preprint scientific article of the last 6 months,
• Interview: Summarizing an interview the author made with an academician/professional from an astrophysics field,
• Outreach: A discussion on dissemination of astrophysics scientific outputs and knowledge to the public,
• Research report: A report on an observation campaign or a successful/failed hypothesis the author conducted recently.

How to Submit?

• The main filetype to submit here is .odt files from the Libre Office Writer. You can obtain Libre Office via here. The corresponding file should be e-mailed to info [at] fire-ae.org, with the e-mail subject as "Submitting a manuscript in the "[[ARTICLE TYPE]]" category".
• Until a template file for each type of article type is here, prospective authors are encouraged to use common sense to organize their text with the title, author(s), abstract (if relevant), followed by the main content, and references (in APA 7th style).
• The figures, tables, illustrations, and similar content should be in the main .odt file and separately attached to the e-mail. The entire attachment size should not be larger than 20 mb, while the individual image/figures should at least have 300 dpi quality.

Guidelines to Follow in Manuscripts

The following guidelines are mandatory to follow for us to consider publishing your work:

• The figures and any other additional materials used in the manuscript should either be created by the author, or in the public domain/CC 0 and not published elsewhere.
• The text should be in English, and grammatical correction should be checked prior to publication.
• The e-mail for the submission should also include full name, affiliation, and ORCID of the corresponding author.

Authorship
• Only the person/people who made the significant part of the manuscript, checked the entire publication prior to submission, and responsible for what is written in the file.
• In case there are multiple authors, the main contributor should be the first author, and the supervisor should be the corresponding author.
Plagiarism
• Any work or statement not done, achieved, or concluded by the manuscript-related study/work should be cited in APA 7th format (author(s) and year in in-text) and the full end-text citation should be provided in the end.
• Failure to achieve this will end up with the rejection of the submission.
Novelty and Archiving
• The submitted manuscript/work should not be published elsewhere and should not be under review in other journals.
• Published work in Science Ascend will be uploaded to Zenodo with its separate DOI as individual articles for archiving procedure.
The Use of Artificial Intelligence (Generative, Large Language Models, or otherwise)
• The only permitted use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the manuscript is to improve the grammar and readability of the text. This should be disclosed at the end of the manuscript.
• Image generation, text generation, literature review summary, data analysis, visualization, and any other domain normally within the responsibility of the author(s) should not be done with AI tools.

What Happens to Your Article After Acceptance?

Science Ascend (currently) is a recency-focused journal, hence, it specifically opens call for manuscripts for a given issue with a deadline for submission. An article sent before the deadline and got accepted:

• will be published with the .pdf in the full issue for the set publication date,
• will be published as an .html on the respective issue webpage in this website,
• the .pdf version of the article will be archived in Zenodo, with a given DOI number from there.
